Facebook Warns: Your Page Likes Might Drop!

Don’t be surprised if you see a decrease in your page likes pretty soon, thanks to Facebook’s new policy for counting them.

Facebook recently announced that they are changing the method of counting page like numbers and that’s why you might see a “small dip” in your fan numbers, starting on March 12th.

If you visit your Facebook Page Insights, you may also see something like that:

We’ve recently updated the way we measure how many people like your Page. Pages may see a decrease in likes after March 12, when we removed likes from inactive Facebook accounts.

In short, Facebook will no longer count those who have deactivated their accounts or turned into a “memorialized” profile.

Actually, this change makes perfect sense, since inactive Facebook users mean nothing for your brand page —apart from skewing the Insights.

Removing inactive users from page likes may even help you to revise your content strategy for your “new”, and better-targeted audience!

We’ll see how it will affect the fan counts in general and whether this update will have any impact on Facebook’s ever-decreasing organic reach.
